Adobe Photoshop has always had the edge compared to other photo editing software. Unfortunately you can’t have it on Ubuntu. Since Linux users badly wanted a photo editing software like Photoshop they developed Gimp. Gimp is the open source alternative to Photoshop. We agree Photoshop is a professional software for image editing and is one of the best available in the market. But why not try Gimp which has most of its feature and is completely open source? Gimp is a remarkable software for image editing. It is fast, free and Photo editing quality is comparable to that of Photoshop. Gimp is available for all three platforms(Linux, Windows and Mac). The latest version as of today is 2.8 which adds a lot of improvements to the initial release. Here is how you can install on Ubuntu:

sudo apt-get install gimp

Alternatively you can download from Ubuntu software center. The tools used for image editing are the same as Photoshop. Image Layers which is one of the prominent features of Photoshop is missing is Gimp. This is the only disadvantage of using Gimp. Here are some screenshots.

Look Familiar to Photoshop? Why don’t you give it a try?
